Hot Stuff

Peacock Poetry

Flagging beneath the burning one summer, I escaped to the forest to seek shady shelter. It was perhaps one or two degrees cooler but I still felt completely wiped out as did the surrounding nature it seemed. Prolonged spells of heat really take it out of you and I am grateful, so far, for the kindness of this year’s summer.,

Here the soft focus is

zoomed in

like a magnifying glass,

hardy shoots fighting

through desert concrete

and green sea urchins

dropping from stooped stalks.

The forest‘s spine speaks of suffering

and relentless resilience

heartless stinging nestles jutting like razors

into the tested track

Battery twenty percent drawls

the American announcer on my wireless earphones

The forest and I both pining for rainfall’s rescue
