The Floating Fisher

The angler glides
with patience and pace
along the Santa Barbara coast
He navigates his kayak
as the orange orb rises
from the horizon
He floats in a misty stillness,
and paddles in peace

His morning routine
keeps his attention
and hopes to snag a crab or two
at the bottom of the net

The long fishline
wrinkles in the water,
pelicans and dolphins
follow in a salty sea of bliss
As he passes the bobbing buoy,
it speaks in gentle whispers,
cautions the floating fisher
not to drift too far from shore.
