An Affair With Danger (Noir Nights Book 1) Robin Storey #Crime, Thriller & Mystery Adventures

An Affair With Danger (Noir Nights Book 1) Kindle Edition

Falling in love could cost him his life.

Will’s life as a bankruptcy lawyer is safe and predictable – even, at times, boring.

Until the night he is held up in an armed robbery in a convenience store.

Determined to put the culprit behind bars, Will goes to court to give evidence.

When he meets the perpetrator’s girlfriend Frankie, he is instantly smitten. Feisty and outspoken, she is like no other woman he has ever met.

But Frankie has her own problems, least of which is her violent boyfriend Eddie, who remains a threat even while in prison.

As Will and Frankie grow closer, the danger intensifies, especially after Eddie is released. Until the traumatic moment when they are both forced to make a choice.

Can they escape Eddie? Or will he destroy their relationship forever?

If you like gritty, suspenseful stories, you’ll love this novel you can read in one sitting.

An Affair With Danger is the first standalone novella in the Noir Nights crime series.

About the Author

After many years as a freelance writer, I’m now hooked on fiction writing and love being an indie author. I live on the picturesque Sunshine Coast in Queensland Australia, where we complain if the temperature drops to below 14 degrees Centigrade.

I’ve written seven books so far – comedy crime How Not To Commit Murder, romantic comedy Perfect Sex, an e-book of four short stories Comedy Shorts, memoir Making The Breast Of It, psychological suspense novel Murder Undone and two stand-alone novellas in my crime/suspense series Noir Nights – An Affair With Danger and Secret Kill.

Although I’ve written in a number of genres, crime is the common element in many of them. I derive the most enjoyment from writing dark, gritty novels against a background of crime and criminals, and will continue to write these books in my Noir Nights series.

I’d love you to come and visit my website, Storey-Lines,, and check out my blog. If you subscribe to my readers’ group to receive my newsletter on books, reading and all things bookish, you’ll receive a FREE e-book of crime short stories On The Edge.

I’d also love to connect with you on my Facebook page.

I’m a certified book nerd (too many books, not enough time!) and am a useful team member on quiz nights for the literary questions – but not much else. I enjoy hiking and chilling out at the beach, which is five minutes drive from my home. My partner and I completed the Camino Frances pilgrimage across northern Spain in October 2016. A life-changing experience I would highly recommend.

I don’t have any unusual hobbies or strange pets.

Our Thoughts

Will McPherson begins this story as a lawyer, but his life is destined to change dramatically. He is such a likeable character, holey underpants notwithstanding, and his sense of humour is second to none and I loved him immediately.

I don’t often read a book in one sitting, preferring to take my time to enjoy the experience, but An Affair with Danger would not let me put the book down.

An exciting, fast paced, rollercoaster of a story, beautifully written with such empathy.

I will remember Will and Frankie for a very long time…

I was provided with a complimentary copy of this book, through Reading Deals, and I gave an honest review.

Mindlovemisery’s Menagerie

Mahdie Farhadkiaei

Stuck between the tick and the tock
The Joker plays his final hand.
It was bound to happen, wedged between the pack
The two cards merge under the Jokers spoken word
Lovers from the beginning,
Nothing would have kept them apart.
The Joker, thinking he has done them wrong
To mess up the pack, to pay the many hands back
For leaving him out of the games they play
He has done those broken souls a favour,
Bringing them together
A spell once woven, is rarely broken when love is true.
Turn the card over
to read the final words the Joker spoke to seal the deal.
Off with their heads!

Shades of Paliarchi?

For Sue Vincent… #Acrostic Poem @SCVincent

Sunshine fingers reaching out
Uniting all in touch
Evening comes, starlight bright
Vibrant colours of cosmic order
Inviting you to stand and say
Nice to have known you, Starbright
Carrying the torch of love
Engaging all who read your words
Never condescending, always light, your
Touch sunshine bright…

Mindlovemisery’s Menagerie

Lovers by Harry Hollard, 1982

I brought this sketchy black and white print at a boot sale.
Hung it on my bedroom wall.
Hoping I would find a partner soon.
Be careful what you wish for
For I got more than I bargained for
Each night he would come, turning my nights
into a wild dance of love
Try as I might, I could not hold on to him until morning.
The space beside me remains empty…

What do you see # 62 – December 28th 2020

( For the visually challenged reader, this image shows a puppy wearing a Christmas hat, sitting in a bed. You can see the Christmas tree lit up in the background)

Jack, my husband brought home
A golden four-legged friend
What he doesn’t realise is
This furry bundle of joy
Is terrible twos wrapped up in one
He is going to eat us out of house and home
Literally anything that stands still
The couch, shoes, slippers, you get the idea
Just when we had said goodbye
To the last of our two-legged bundles of joy
I finally had the house to myself
Everything where it belongs
Now we must go walkies
Pick up small, warm bundles to carry home
After a few days you will find
This furry stranger has taken your heart
And made it his own
He will lead you where he wants to go
And you will be happy to do so
Another happy new year
With my new best friend Toby…

FlashFiction Challenge for Carrot Ranch Literary Community ~ #Poetry

December 17, 2020, prompt: Flash Fiction Challenge for Carrot Ranch. In 99 words (no more, no less), write a story that features stilettos. Who will wear them and why? Go where the prompt leads!

The office Christmas party
Something I didn’t look forward to
Mark would be there
In dreams, he does not see the scar on my cheek
Walking home,
a beautiful pair of stilettos caught my eye
I bought them, hoping he would
see only the sparkles on my feet
At school I could never hide
from the harsh words of others
These days I can wear my hair long,
it helps, like closing a curtain
I walked around the house
wearing these shoes
Feeling like a fairy princess
the office party would be fine
Because in dreams he loves me…

December 10: Flash Fiction Challenge

In 99 words (no more, no less), write a story about something a character never dreamed would happen. The situation can be fortuitous, funny, or disappointing. Go where the prompt leads!

The day of the big move, here at last
Mum said everything would be done
For my twelfth birthday
Granddad put a spoke in the wheel
I’m not moving, he said
Sat in his old armchair
We didn’t know what dad said to him.
The moving man took his chair
He sat sulking in the car
I sat in the back seat with grandad
He grabbed my hand. I’m scared, Billy.
Your gran won’t know where we are…
I had no idea grandad was so soft
He has always been the backbone of our family
But Gran’s still here…

Touch… #Poetry

When you touch me
Time runs
My skin boils to screaming point
Each fingertip pressure
Sacred joy remembered
You trace my dreams
with scenes of wonder
Love, free from restrictions
made by hollow minds
Where frozen air fills time and space
A screaming point of a different kind
I am called back from dreaming
by warm hands touch…
